Finally, a meditation DVD designed with Deaf people in mind! InnerSight, hosted by Pam Cavazos, who has been a sign language interpreter for over 20 years, is a meditation DVD for Deaf people. This relaxing and visually attractive DVD is peacefully presented in ASL with voice-over and captions, so it’s accessible to everyone in your life. Pam Cavazos offers a non-religious approach to meditation by showing us how to manage our own energy through a visual process of self-discovery. She calls this “InnerSight” which is the name of this DVD.

Pam Cavazos is from the San Francisco Bay Area and has spent several years studying and teaching meditation. Her natural enthusiasm shines through in this DVD as does gentle nature and natural talent. ASL consultation was provided by Tim Finnigan, who is an ASL Sign master, and deaf from birth.

I have personally viewed this DVD in its’ entirety. I discovered the use of captions helped me follow some of the signs I was unfamiliar with, such as “grounding cord,” or “having a golden sun.” I found the Daydream meditation at the end not only beautiful in it’s simplicity, but profoundly moving! My focus became soft and I sat watching for at least 15 minutes while my body and mind went into a trance-like state. Very relaxing. Find out how to purchase this DVD at: http://www.deafmeditation.com/

This is the only visual meditation media made specifically with Deaf people in mind!

Visual Meditation by Myss.com, is by far one of the best visual meditations I’ve seen online. It is a rhythmical geometrical flash program based on the Chakra Model that reviews the seven power centers in your body, called chakras. The visual meditation provides an ethereal shadowed body amidst soothing colors, shapes and forms as the dissolving text explains how the state of each chakra reflects the health, psychological, emotional and spiritual well-being of a particular area of your body. Caroline Myss, Ph.D., the creator of this program, works in the fields of human consciousness, spirituality and mysticism, health, energy medicine, and the science of medical intuition.

Ralph Marston, creator of The Daily Motivator provides a number of motivational and inspirational flash programs on his website. They can be found on the side bars surrounding his brief inspirational thought for the day. I found his visual meditations to be quite beautiful and soothing. Copyright ©2007 Ralph S. Y’know, this reminded me of something I’ve been asking myself for a long time - you know those hypnotists that you see on county fairs, etc.? - can deaf people be hypnotized? Of course, I was too chicken to go up to a hypnotist and ask him/her to to hypnotize me. Ha.

How very interesting! I’ve started up traditional zen meditation. Now you’re supposed to meditate with eyes sort of open (not really focusing though) so that helps, but I’ve been interested in the intersection of deaf/meditation so I’ll definitely check out this dvd…thanks for the pointer.

Something to say?
