LaRonda Zupp
Hi! LaRonda Zupp here. My co-workers and I are making video clips for our website at work — SJCD (St. Joseph’s Center for the Deaf, in Hayward, CA). These updates will be posted soon. I decided to post my brief introduction here on my b/vlog as a way to test it out. I thought it might be a nice way for you to get to know a little more about me. Though it is not a detailed history, it does “highlight” some of my education and work in the deaf community. It’s always nice to share introductions and background with others. Feel free to contact me. I would love to learn more about you!

“Hello. My name is LaRonda Zupp. My name sign is made with an “L” on my cheek. I am the Family Life Coordinator / Certified Parent Educator here at SJCD (St. Joseph’s Center for the Deaf).
I grew up “hearing.” I became deaf when I was 17 years old. I attended Gallaudet in the Spring of 1984. Then I moved back to California and attended CSUN (California State University, Northridge). It was there that I graduated with a BA degree in Deaf Studies (in 1987).
After finishing my BA degree, I relocated up north to Oregon. There, I attended Western Oregon State Colllege (WOSC), now called Western Oregon University (WOU). There, I graduated (in 1990) with an MS (Master’s of Science) degree in Counseling (Deaf).
When I finished my degrees, I got a job (as a substitute School Counselor) for a short time at OSD (Oregon School for the Deaf). Soon after, I moved to Washington state and got a job as a School Counselor at WSD (Washington School for the Deaf). I worked there for nearly 10 years. After that, I relocated back to California again and started working here at SJCD (St. Joseph’s Center for the Deaf) in the year 2000.
Currently, I’ve been working on my Certificate for Nonprofit Management (at Cal State Univ. East Bay). I will receive my certificate in May, 2007.
It’s nice to meet you all.”

Hi, It’s great to meet you.
) I hope you don’t mind me asking you some questions. Why didn’t you stay at Gallaudet until you graduate? I would love for you to do vlog about what was like for you to become deaf when you were 17 years old, and how did you cope this? How did your parents cope about this situation? How did you first involve in Deaf community? Do you miss sound? What sound that you really miss the most? Would you want to restore your hearing if you had an opportunity? What do you hope for Deaf community in order to work with people who lost their hearing in late age?
To let you know I attended CSUN for three years. It’s great school. Unfortunately, I had to leave CSUN due to terrible situation that I got beat up by undercover police. It was because I didn’t hear his calling me when the malfunction alarm went off. I wonder if you know NINA?
Thanks,
Aidan

Hi Aidan.
I will be glad to make a b/vlog post to address your questions above. They are worth answering and I appreciate you asking them. If anyone wants to read my longer, detailed story that answer these questions in writing, you can go to the side bar on my blog and click “My Story.” I have about 75 chapters written that detail my transformation from a hearing to deaf person. But I can understand the desire to make a vlog. I’ll see what I can do. Watch for answers soon.
PS: I don’t remember a Nina.
Thank you to those of you who also made comments. It’s a nice feeling.

How interesting to get to know you a bit more! Why? Cuz you and I never met in person perhaps but we went on the same path..you went to Gally in 1984 (I did so too until 1986) and you went to CSUN, my sister was a student too a.k.a. Boing and I visited there a lot (if you know her)..and now you work in Hayward where my boyfriend is a resident there! Weird heh? Talk about a small world! Oh one more thing, I have a bachelor’s degree in social work, lol…

Hey Barb – Small world! We gotta meet in person! I work with people who know you. I’ve met your boyfriend at several deaf community events here over the past 7 years. He seems like a fun guy. I’m a fan of yours. We just gotta meet!
I think it’s wonderful when we start sharing more about ourselves. So many assumptions are often made about people before they share pieces of their lives.
I’m ready to host a vlogger/blogger gathering here in the SF Bay Area! I’ve made some great friends and I want to meet them all!!! I’m thinking how to do this???….
